Peter Mill, Creative Director - Copy
Peter Mill has 32 years of experience in the advertising and marketing business. He began his career in advertising as a copywriter with Leo Burnett in London in 1976. He gained further experience with BBDO London and Fletcher Shelton Delaney before moving back to Scotland to work at Saatchi & Saatchi owned Hall Advertising. In 1984, he left Halls with two others to found The Leith Agency. The company grew into the most successful advertising agency Scotland has ever seen, but during that time Peter found his vocational role as copywriter shrank to less than 10% of his total working time. So, in March 2005, he set up 60 Watt in an attempt to redress that balance and return to life at the coal face and his first love, copywriting.
Iain Hawk, Creative Director - Art
Iain graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and began his 32 year career as a graphic designer at the Scottish Countryside Commission before moving to Terston Design, part of Edinburgh institution, Waterston’s the printers. Having learnt his trade there, he moved on to the world of advertising, joining Scotland’s then leading advertising agency, McCallum Advertising as an art director. In 1982, he moved back to his birthplace for stints at JWT and Ogilvy & Mather, New Zealand before returning to Scotland to become Creative Director of Ogilvy & Mather’s Scottish offices. In 1990, he co-founded the creative consultancy Hawk & York and worked as consultant creative director for The Morgan Partnership and Coltas as well as direct for his own clients. Iain founded 60 Watt with Peter Mill in March 2005.
Mark Gorman, Head of Thinking
Mark began his career in advertising 22 years ago at Hall Advertising in Edinburgh, fresh from a one year vocational course at Watford College and before that an academic degree in Plant Physiology from Stirling University. He is well aware of the difference between the two forms of education. He moved from Hall Advertising to work with Peter Mill at the fast growing, Leith Agency in 1988 before branching out to run his own business, 1576 Advertising in 1994. In 2003 he left 1576 to pursue a consultancy career but returned to advertising a year later as CEO of Citigate SMARTS. After two years, he left the world of plc agencies to work as a consultant and also joined 60 Watt as Head of Thinking, a role he finds far more enjoyable and stimulating than anything else he has done for at least 5 years.
Helene Aubrit, Senior Designer
Helene was born and raised in Lille, France and moved to Scotland as an Au Pair in 1997. Having satisfied her desire to change nappies for a living and feeling confident enough in her command of the English language, she enrolled for an HNC in Graphic Design at Edinburgh’s Telford College in 1998. Immediately upon graduation she gained employment as a designer at Marketing Advantage for three years before moving to Mode Design in Edinburgh where she worked as a senior designer until she joined 60 Watt in 2006.
